The Long Awaited Belly Pic...

Hard to believe that Antoinette is already 32 weeks pregnant and that in about one month, little Billy will be a full term infant ready to make his debut into this world. Antoinette's belly has really begun to expand now. She's still all beautiful belly though. This is the second update from what will amount to four in a row to get us caught up.

The little guy seems to have a fondness for music. If its loud enough, he'll usually wake up and give us a few appreciative kicks (or at least that's what we pretend they are). His Momma spends plenty of time interacting with him. Drawing her finger across her belly in a zig zag fashion and watching his responsive kicks. He seems to wait his turn, as if he's waiting for his Mother to signal him again. Truly a wonder to behold. I wonder if he'll use the word "y'all" as a child.

As discussed before, the baby will gradually begin to spend more and more time in a head down position. He's literally preparing himself for birth. Also, his frame is continuing to fill out and combined with the close quarters inside Mom's belly, it will soon result in a reduced ability to pull that leg back and deliver a sharp kick to the ribs. While that is a good thing for expectant Mothers, it can also be alarming as many women think that the final months of pregnancy should be for the strongest kicks. Its only logical to assume that a stronger baby will have a bit more pop on his windup. When the kicks become less forceful, there is a tendency to fear for the baby. Such reductions in force are perfectly normal due to his confined space.

When it comes to new skills, little Billy has many. His first "tricks" he can perform for Mom and Dad will eventually morph into somersaults, testing his boundaries, and the astounding ability to jump off of things. For now, he is relegated to blinking, moving his head to look around, grabbing things (including his umbilical), making faces, breathing practice, peeing on things, and listening to everything that's happening in his tiny little world. All skills he will need in the outside world...and at a Buckeye game.

Last, but certainly not least, is Antoinette's update. She's had a new symptom emerge. This one is a burning sensation in her sternum that can be very uncomfortable. After doing a little research, such feelings are very normal and can have any number of causes, ranging from heart burn to general swelling. 99% of the time, the issue is not serious and the cure, as it will be for most of the symptoms coming in the homestretch, is delivering a healthy baby. Upon delivery, many of these symptoms will subside until next time.

Today we bought new down comforters, including a down comforter thing for us to sleep on. I'm not sure how the "system" works, but Antoinette is convinced it will help her sleep better during the night and that's really all I care about. I'll sleep on the floor if she needs the entire bed to try and get some rest. Best to get it while the getting's good. Once our little bruiser arrives, sleep will be at a premium for both of us.
