For those of you following along, welcome to week 20 and Antoinette's first belly pic in two and a half weeks (sorry about that). At this point, little Billy's crown to rump to length has surpassed the half foot mark and still growing and he's over a half pound in weight. His skin begins to thicken and separates into four distinct layers. The vernix caseosa (pasty substance on the skin from last week) begins to thicken around the eyebrows. Scalp hair, upper lip hair, eyebrows, and toe nails all show increased growth.
Antoinette's uterus has begun to run out of room internally and is finally pushing the belly outward. The other unfortunate side effect of this is the perfectly natural reorganization of the internal organs. Basically, among other things, the lungs, stomach, and kidneys will be shifted and put under pressure. The result is shortness of breath, increased indigestion, and increased frequency of urination. Also, that "inny" will soon become an "outy". Abdominal and uterine muscles continue their stretching which leads to occasional discomfort. All in all, Antoinette still feels great. No nausea to speak of, occasional headaches, and still a bit sleepy earlier than pre-pregnancy. Look at that belly!!!
